Hello again from us all at Sharpham Park, It’s glorious summer here on the farm and we’ve just been sheep shearing. 167 woolly sheep had to endure their annual haircut and emerged looking sleek, slender and no doubt a whole lot cooler! We, in the meantime, collect the wool to make our fabulous Sharpham Park blankets. The spelt fields are looking almost as shaggy as the sheep, nearing time for harvesting and over 1.5m tall, while our four friendly ducklings are growing daily as they swim around the pond. Glastonbury Festival could be heard quite clearly from the farm - one of the White Park cows was seen hoof tapping to the music, although this needs to be confirmed. It’s a great time of year to be in Somerset.

Waitrose shoppers are loving our selection of Speltottos. They make a perfect summer risotto base when mixed with seasonal herbs and vegetables, they are very quick and easy, leaving you with more time for that glass of wine in the sun.

Kilver Court is buzzing with the opening of the first stage of a multi-million designer shopping experience on 23^rd and 24^th July. This is a totally new departure for the site and we’re kicking off with up to 80% discounts on men’s and women’s fashion and accessories. Other Kilver Court news: Michelle Marsh in the Natural Health Centre is offering a free back massage with every Primavera facial, and a discount on their products throughout July and August. Kilver Court will resound to the Pirates of Penzance on July 12^th. It’s a wonderful chance to see and hear this classic comic opera in a beautiful garden setting.
Sharpham Park Summer Spelt Salad
200g pearled spelt 650ml vegetable or chicken stock 75ml extra virgin olive oil 1 onion, sliced 60g shelled pistachio nuts, toasted Zest and juice of an orange Juice of a lemon 1 garlic clove, crushed 4 spring onions, thinly sliced 70g dried apricots, chopped A handful of mint leaves A handful of coriander leaves 2 red chillies, de-seeded and finely chopped Method: Rinse the spelt in cold water. Cover with boiling stock, or alternatively, well salted boiling water and cook until the grains are just tender, about 20 minutes. Meanwhile cook the sliced onions in hot oil until browned. Once the spelt is cooked, toss in the olive oil, citrus juices and season with salt and pepper. Leave aside for five minutes before tossing in the remaining ingredients.
