ON THE FARM We can’t believe how October went from having a heat wave at the beginning to now having some of the chilliest days and nights, but it’s a sure sign that winter is on the way. We are keeping ourselves fuelled and warm by eating lots of spelt flapjacks and brownies – naughty, but oh so very nice! And there is nothing nicer when you get home from work on a cold dark night to whip up a steamy hot Speltotto. We have taken to adding this seasons leeks and sweet potatoes from the vegetable garden, but we would love to hear your recipe ideas. We will choose one recipe per month that is sent in by our spelty followers and send them a yummy box of goodies, so get cooking! Next years spelt seed was planted at the beginning of October, and I am pleased to say it is already poking out of the ground! A good frosty winter and a warm spring will help us ensure a great crop next year! |

| Pearled Spelt Pudding |

This spelt pudding can either be cooked in the oven as below or just gently simmered in a heavy based sauce pan on the stove top. 150c oven or gas mark 2 Rub a 1 ltr capacity oven proof dish with butter and then gently soften the rest. Put the pearled spelt, sugar, milk and vanilla extract. Add the softened butter and then top with grated nutmeg. Pop in the oven and cook for at least 2 ½ hours stirring after the first half hour and hour.Why not add some Blueberries, stewed apple or fresh fruits to enjoy with it!!
